Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Review Tour

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is out, and the adaptation appears to have been a limitless success. It wasn’t long ago that fans learned that Netflix and Studio Trigger were teaming up to bring Night City to life in a new way. With a slew of hits under its belt, the team at Studio Trigger has given hope to millions that Cyberpunk 2077 will see their vision come to life all thanks to this project. And as you can see below, critics have nothing but love for the flashy adaptation.

From entertainment careers to favorite outlets, the word on Cyberpunk: Edgerunners seems to be pretty good. The brutal series is equal parts action and maturity with a bunch of fancy visuals mixed in between. Studio Trigger presents one of its best series to date with this Netflix project. And of course, Evan Valentine from ComicBook had nothing but love for the release.

“Despite the myriad technical issues that have continued to damage the game and its reputation since its launch, Cyberpunk’s story has resonated with players, and not just because of Keanu Reeves (although that helps). Its story was one that sought to strike someone’s heart. Cyberpunk means it; it’s about legacy, dreams, and living despite the toxic chaos of capitalism. For many, it was the diamonds hiding under layers of Night City filth that kept them occupied, and what others thought wasn’t worth the hassle of playing through this flawed game. It is with great excitement to announce that Studio Trigger’s collaboration with CD Projekt Red is exactly the deliverance this franchise needs,” Valentine wrote.

As you can see in the slides below, critics definitely agree with Valentine’s Day. You can see what the industry is saying out there if you’re still on the fence about binge eating. And when you decide to check out Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the series airs exclusively on Netflix.

“Edgerunners’ ten episodes run anywhere from 20-30 minutes each, and the show does a great job of introducing a satisfying amount of movement, storytelling, and world-building into each chapter without feeling cramped. Cyberpunk often has a hard time balancing these elements, With so many series collapsing under intricate, fictional webs of mass drama and crime, Edgerunners mostly avoids getting bogged down in the weeds of its complex traditions by focusing on its characters.” – digital trends

“From Trigger, a top-notch animation studio, we have what can only be described as an unconditional success on our hands here. Cyberpunk Edgerunners is an exceptional series, taking the potential of CDPR’s Night City and blasting it into the blood of a thrilling, oddly sad, and compelling action series. I would recommend it to absolutely anyone (uh, anyone over 18, that is).” – Forbes

“Netflix animated series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is an embodiment of anime from the ’80s and early ’90s. It’s extremely dramatic, ridiculously stunning, and exceptionally violent, set in the world of Night City, which we all know from CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk: 2077.” Studio Trigger’s ten-episode series (Star Wars: Visions, Promare) is on Netflix on September 13, and for an animated series set in a video game world, it doesn’t quite get to be that good.” — Game Spot

The Tag, Netflix’s original animated series, has had its fair share of ups and downs over the years, at times sticking with gritty and cheerful new shows, and at other times to diminishing disappointments. However, Studio Trigger and CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners guide Libra in an important way toward proving that when the right people are behind a project, the streaming service can be a force to be reckoned with in the animation field.” — Kotaku

“Both the video game and this cartoon, created by Jackie Rafal, are based on the 1988 table-top role-playing game Cyberpunk 2020, whose counterculture atmosphere was shaped by its designer, outspoken designer Mike Bondsmith. But, in addition to the repetition in all of these games’ names There’s also a funny repetition in the title of the animated series itself that seems to sum up the ethos of the franchise – in the world of the show, “edgerunner” is another word for “cyberpunk,” so in a sense this is called Cyberpunk: Cyberpunks. All this: It’s Cyberpunk, but more. And best of all—with the notable exception of all the terms, knowledge of 2077 isn’t an entry price for Edgerunners, who stands alone even as you fold into the characters and concepts from the game.” – ribbed

In Cyberpunk 2077, V’s rise to the criminal underworld is explored in a five-minute movie scene. In Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, David Martinez takes about five episodes to break completely bad. At the time, Studio Trigger and creator Rafał Jaki give breathing space to explore the Night City and the shattered dreams of its residents in a delightful 10-episode series that makes a strong case that CDPR may have something powerful to build upon for future Cyberpunk stories.” – IGN
